“Public art installations can help transform neighborhoods by creating vibrant public spaces that improve the quality of life in a community. They can bring to life an ugly wall, an imposing building, or empty spaces that make neighborhoods feel cold and unwelcoming.” Columbia University Professor and committee member Norman Alexandroff.

BAM_hydrants_2 BAM_hydrants

On OCT. 17th a crew of youth artists set forth to beautify Roosevelt Road’s fire hydrants. Thanks to a wonderful collaboration between BAM,  Youth Crossroads, local firefighters and 8th ward Alderman Nora Laureto the  hydrant paint project was quite a success. The hydrants were designed, created and executed through BAM workshops and sessions with Youth Crossroads youth. When you get a chance take a self-guided hydrant tour  on Roosevelt Rd. and check out the great public art on our hydrants!!! Rumor has it we will be doing more this spring!
